Customer Background and Production Need

The customer is a Korean automotive parts supplier with production sites in several countries. It supplies automotive ducts and shock absorber dust covers to vehicle manufacturers in Korea, Japan, India, and the United States. Shock absorber dust covers are functional safety-related parts, so the customer needed stable physical properties, chemical resistance, and dimensional consistency.

Technical Challenge

TPE and TPEE materials have high melt-flow behavior and are difficult to keep stable during parison extrusion. Dust covers also have corrugated geometry, and wall thickness consistency affects flex life. The customer required in-mold deflashing to reduce downstream work and keep the part clean. Compared with injection molding, extrusion blow molding offered flexibility, but required stronger dynamic machine control.

Jonh Huah's Solution

Jonh Huah redesigned and customized the JS-550E extrusion blow molding machine for this material and product. The machine integrates drying and weight control and uses an accumulator-style injection design for fast, controlled parison delivery. Combined with parison control and mold automation, the setup supports automatic upper and lower deflashing.

Project Result

After installation, the dedicated machine met the customer's CPK requirements and produced TPE/TPEE dust covers at a public output of 211 pcs/hr. The same production concept was later extended by the customer group to factories in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and India.

Why This Solution Worked

This case required machine customization, material understanding, parison stability, and mold automation. Jonh Huah configured the machine for the actual TPE/TPEE behavior and the corrugated dust cover geometry.
