Customer Background and Production Need
The customer is a major North American automotive parts manufacturer and Tier 1 supplier. It produces high-precision, weather-resistant automotive duct systems for vehicle manufacturers. The customer contacted Jonh Huah to solve production challenges for automotive air ducts, which are important for vehicle climate-control and airflow systems.
Technical Challenge
Automotive ducts are often irregular and flat, making wall thickness distribution difficult in extrusion blow molding. Raised dimple areas can become thin during blowing, and the product shape requires careful parison control. The customer also needed a 2+2 mold layout with in-mold cutting to meet output targets without relying on secondary manual trimming.
Jonh Huah's Solution
Jonh Huah worked with the customer's product engineers and supplied a JHS-490D hybrid blow molding machine. The project included a precision in-mold cutting device and wall thickness control for the long flat duct shape. The 2+2 mold layout increased output compared with the original 1+1 concept, while servo-assisted control supported the required movement stability.
Project Result
The customized JHS-490D reached a public output of 514 automotive ducts per hour. The 2+2 mold layout doubled the output compared with the earlier 1+1 plan and met the customer's North American tolerance checks. After the first machine ran successfully, the customer placed an additional order for deployment in its Mexico plant.
Why This Solution Worked
This case required co-engineering between product design, mold design, parison control, cutting, and machine motion. Jonh Huah provided a production setup for HDPE automotive ducts rather than a generic bottle machine. You can review more customer cases or browse the technical FAQ.
